 WORLD OF QUEST

The adventures of Quest come to life in this action adventure ..... comedy type show. There was a disagreement  between producers on what kind of show they wanted, action adventure or adventure comedy.

The show was based on a independently produced graphic novel by Jason T. Kruse, which means it was drastically changed for the animated show. It's what producers do to reach a wider audience, which kind of alienates the original fan base.

Here is the Wikipedia description of the show:

In the land of Odyssia, Prince Nestor goes to seek Quest who was banished years ago by Nestor's mother for failing to properly protect the Prince. Prince Nestor wants Quest's help in rescuing his parents who have been captured and are being held captive by unknown beings. Quest refuses to help Nestor even though he is shown a letter that would have repealed Quest's exile. The Prince places an "allegiance spell" on Quest which forces him to grudgingly obey the Prince. Later they meet up with Graer, a griffin, who joins them in order to rescue, Gatling the cyborg who is in prison. They discover that the prison is actually a giant monster and they aid Gatling in his escape. The group decide to look for the "Dagger of Way", a techno creature. Known as "Way" to the others, the creature eventually aids the group in their search. Finally they are joined by a young wizard female named Anna who understands "Way" unique way of speaking. The group wants to find the five swords which will form the Shadow Soul Sword enabling them to find and free Nestor's parents. They are pursued by Lord Spite and General Ogun who hamper their search.

I didn't really enjoy working on this show and I will leave it at that. If you are interested in seeing this program, there are episodes on Youtube as usual.

WEIRD YEARS

As you can see from the designs, it got pretty WEIRD to say the least. It was about a multi generational family living in the suburbs with all the experience of the old country. Where the kids are "been there, done that", the parents are "everything is new and wonderful" and Grandma is" old ways are best". The show itself didn't play on this as much as it could have and instead mostly focused on the father and the kids getting in trouble, similar to "The Simpsons".

But despite all that, it was still a fun show to work. I particularly like this style and the fact the producers let me use "dot eyes". You have no idea how hard it is to convince people to use dot eyes in animated shows. After all these years, it is the only show I ever got to use them on.

I don't know how many of you out there has seen it outside Canada, I can't remember who else broadcasted this show. You can find some poor quality episodes on Youtube.com.
